Interest Groups

One of the wonderful benefits of membership in CFUW is participation in our Interest Groups.  The interest groups meet monthly or bi-monthly, September through June.  Sign-up occurs in September and October but members may join at any time.  New groups are added when there is sufficient interest.
Whether you like to read, eat, drink, or walk there is something for you.  Our Interest Groups are special to CFUW.  We currently have two book clubs, a group of wine tasters, a hiking group, a craft group, a bridge group, our Happy Hour group, and the lunch bunch.  
We welcome your ideas for new interest groups such as movie night, coffee and conversation, issues and advocacy, art appreciation, music... and the list goes on.  If you have a great idea please 'Contact Us'

General Information for Interest Group Leaders

​How Interest Group (IG) leaders are selected:
  • A leader generally comes forward from the interested IG membership and agrees to take on the leadership role and, ideally, makes the Vice President (VP) aware of this.
  • An Interest Group leader is needed for each Interest Group so there is a central contact person and group coordination.
  • The VP contacts all known IG leaders to confirm their leadership and accuracy of IG information, i.e. meeting schedule.
  • The VP will post a list of Interest Groups’ pertinent information on the CFUW SC website and update it from time to time as necessary throughout the year.

How the Vice President and Interest Group leaders work together:
  • At every September meeting the VP coordinates the Interest Group displays and will ask current IG leaders to update information so the general membership can select from active Interest Groups.
  • Each group’s display information includes: type of activity, meeting times, location of meetings and leader’s name, if known.
  • At the September meeting there are sign-up sheets for each Interest Group. Members can sign up at this time and at any time during the year as well.
  • The VP then sends each Interest Group leader a copy of the sign-up sheets and any other information leaders may request.
  • The IG leaders will contact all members who have signed up for their group (as per sign-up sheet from VP) and arrange for the first meeting of their group.
  • At first IG meeting, the leader will make sure that group activities/reading lists, meeting dates and locations are decided upon for the next few months by group consensus.
  • Before every subsequent meeting the IG leader will send their IG members a reminder confirming date/time/location of the next IG meeting.
  • If there is a change in leadership or other significant changes to the IG group, the IG leaders should notify the VP.
  • The VP is available should an IG leader need help or more information.
